Magnetic Shot Plate Block
Magnetic stainless steel block for use with impression dies and shot plates. This block adds mass and acts as a solid base when using a hammer and punch (as long as your work surface is rigid). The recessed magnet helps keep the die central to the block.
This block can also be used as a spacer in a hydraulic press with impression dies and shot plates.

Always use a punch and do not hammer directly onto the plate. To gain a good impression use a 2-4lb lump hammer and punch and use the block on a stump, anvil or on thin sheet of wood over a concrete floor. Wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), such as eye protection, face mask, arms covered, and leather apron. Regularly inspect steel tools and implements for wear and sharp edges. Keep steel tools dry and well oiled to prevent corrosion. If you use excessive tonnage with mild steel, you will dent the die (particularly with small designs). Press slowly and check progress. This should produce good results with most metals. Hardened Steel can be brittle and can shatter under extreme stress. When using a press remember to keep your work and spacers properly centred to the press ram at all times. Do not use to bridge gaps.
